◇ Meng Jiangnu Seeks Her Husband
In the Qin Dynasty, during the wedding night, her husband Fan Qiliang (Wan Xiliang) was taken away to build the Great Wall. Meng Jiangnu traveled thousands of miles to bring him warm clothes, which took a long time to reach the Great Wall. However, she was told that her husband had already died, and his body was buried under the Great Wall. Meng Jiangnu cried loudly, and the Great Wall collapsed as a result. She shed blood onto the bones, finding her husband's remains.
Therefore, Emperor Qin Shi Huang summoned Meng Jiangnu, who he considered a celestial being, and wanted to take her as a concubine. Meng Jiangnu asked Emperor Qin Shi Huang to dress in mourning clothes and pay respects to Fan Qiliang at Qinhuangdao. Emperor Qin Shi Huang agreed. After Emperor Qin Shi Huang paid respects to Fan Qiliang, Meng Jiangnu held her husband's remains at the site of the present-day Meng Jiangnu Temple and committed suicide by drowning.
