◇ Lu Tong Becomes a General
The Tang Dynasty mobilized fully to pacify the northern tribes. Emperor Taizong decided to personally lead the campaign, but was trapped in Muyang City. He sent Cheng Yaoyin back to the Central Plains to seek reinforcements, but Cheng Yaoyin was captured by the northern soldiers. Cheng Yaoyin spoke eloquently, and Princess Tulu agreed to let him return to the Central Plains to seek reinforcements.
In a martial competition, Lu Tong, aged seventeen, won first place and became the general to lead the campaign against the north.

Story of the Oracle Poem Two
◇ Xinyuling Preserves Zhao and Refuses the Title
Xinyuling, whose name was Wei Wuji, was a person from the State of Wei during the Warring States period. He was the son of King Zhao of Wei and the half-brother of King Xia of Wei. One of the "Four Lords" of the Warring States period.
In the twentieth year of King Xia of Wei, the State of Zhao was besieged by Qin. Pingyuan Jun, Zhao Sheng, begged Xinyuling to send troops for relief, but King Wei feared retaliation from Qin and hesitated to send troops. Although he had already sent Jin Bi to lead the army, he ordered him not to act rashly.
Xinyuling's guest Hou Ying offered a plan. Because he had helped King Wei's favorite concubine Rujie avenge her father's death, he could steal the military token and take over Jin Bi's command to rescue Zhao. He also introduced a strongman Zhu Hai, who would kill Jin Bi if he refused to hand over the token. After obtaining the military token, Xinyuling successfully rescued Zhao. However, knowing that King Wei would resent him, he stayed in Zhao after the war.
King Zhao of Zhao was grateful for Xinyuling's help and planned to grant him five cities, but Xinyuling showed an arrogant and self-satisfied attitude. His disciples advised him to forget the kindness he had done to others, but not to forget the kindness others had done to him. Xinyuling then changed his attitude, showing humility and courtesy. Later, when King Zhao wanted to grant Xinyuling the five cities, Xinyuling politely declined and remained in Zhao.
His righteous conduct and reputation spread far and wide, and talented people from neighboring areas came to join him. At this time, King Qin was still angry and mobilized hundreds of thousands of troops to destroy Wei. When Xinyuling heard of the country's difficulties, he was in a dilemma because he was weak and alone. At this moment, Qi, Chu, Han, and Yan countries all rushed to send troops to support him. Xinyuling gathered Zhao's warriors, commanded the coalition forces of five states, defeated the Qin army, and drove the Qin forces out of the Hangu Pass.
