◇Yulian Meets Ten Peng
In the Song Dynasty, Qian Yulian and Wang Shipeng were married. Wang went to the capital to take the imperial exams. The rich man Sun Ruquan forced Yulian to marry him.
Qian Yulian refused the proposal of the rich man Sun Ruquan and chose to marry the poor scholar Wang Shipeng, who used a "jade hairpin" as a dowry.
Later, Wang became a top scholar. Because he refused to marry the daughter of the prime minister, he was sent to a remote area as a judge. Sun Ruquan secretly changed Wang's family letter into a "divorce letter" and tricked Yulian into believing it. Yulian's stepmother also forced her to remarry. Yulian refused and tried to commit suicide by jumping into a river, but she was rescued by Qian Zai, the Fujian supervisor, who took her in as an adopted daughter.
Yulian thought that Wang had died. Five years later, Wang served as a governor in Jian'an. One day, at a temple, he held a ceremony to remember his deceased wife. Coincidentally, Yulian came to the temple in Jian'an to burn incense. The two finally reunited.
