Li Jing (571–649), styled Shiyao, was from Suyuan County, Shaanxi. He was a famous general during the late Sui and early Tang dynasties, known for his military and administrative skills. He was later enfeoffed as the Duke of Wei, hence known as Li Wei Gong.

Li Jing is the father of Nezha, the Third Prince, in the story of the Investiture of the Gods, also known as "The Tower-Holder Heavenly King." After assisting Jiang Ziya (Taigong) in defeating King Zhou and establishing the Zhou Dynasty, King Wu officially ascended the throne. Jiang Ziya then set up the Investiture of the Gods to pacify the souls of fallen soldiers in battle. From then on, the world was peaceful and the land was tranquil. King Wu wanted to reward his ministers and distribute lands to the founding heroes. Li Jing and his son, along with six others, asked to return to the mountains to cultivate, not wanting to be attached to worldly fame and wealth. In his youth, he studied with Hu Xing and Bing Yuan, and had a good relationship with the famous scholar Chen Ji. During the late Eastern Han dynasty, after the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the division of provinces, the world fell into chaos. Guan Ning chose to go north instead of south, to show his loyalty to the northern homeland. He went to Liaodong with Bing Yuan and Wang Lie, who were welcomed by the governor of Liaodong, Gongsun Du, who provided a guesthouse for them. However, after meeting Gongsun Du, Guan Ning lived in a thatched hut in the mountains.
