Story of the Oracle Poem One
◇ Wu Ji Meets His Master
Wu Ji was originally a woodcutter. When Jiang Ziya was fishing at Panxi, they met. Wu Ji saw Ziya using a straight hook to fish and laughed.
Ziya looked at Wu Ji's face fortune-telling and said, "You will kill someone today when you enter the city." Wu Ji got angry and left, carrying firewood into the city.
After entering the city, Wu Ji had a conflict with someone and accidentally killed the prime minister of King Wen.
King Wen drew a line as a prison and imprisoned Wu Ji.
Later, Wu Ji was temporarily released to take care of his mother until autumn, when he would be executed.
His mother told him to seek help from Jiang Ziya.
Ziya took him as a disciple, taught him military strategies, and instructed him to dig a pit and use incantations to break his fate.
In autumn, Wu Ji did not appear for execution. King Wen calculated the heavenly numbers and thought Wu Ji had committed suicide out of guilt.
Later, King Wen met Wu Ji, and Wu Ji led King Wen to meet Jiang Ziya.
Ziya was enfeoffed as General Wude. The master and disciple both served King Wen.
Story of the Oracle Poem Two
◇ Shen Baxu Wept at the Qin Court for Nine Days
In 505 BC, the State of Wu captured the capital of the State of Chu. Shen Baxu went to the State of Qin to request assistance, but King Ai of Qin ignored him. Shen Baxu stayed outside the palace gate of Qin, crying day and night for seven days and seven nights. King Ai of Qin was deeply moved and said, "Although Chu is unjust, it has a subject like this. Can it not be preserved?" He composed the poem "Wu Yi" from the "Qin Feng" section. Shen Baxu bowed nine times before sitting down. Then the State of Qin sent 500 chariots to help Chu defeat Wu and drive Wu's king Helü back to Wu.
