The Hexagram of Revolution
 

Revolution. On the day of the "Ji", there is faith. Great passage, beneficial to be firm. No regret.

The image says: There is fire in the marsh, which represents revolution. The superior person uses this to regulate the calendar and clarify the seasons.

Explanation in Simple Chinese:

The Hexagram of Revolution: On the day of sacrifice, captives are used as human sacrifices. It is smooth, auspicious for divination. No regrets.

"The Image Commentary" says: This hexagram has the outer trigram Dui (Joy) and the inner trigram Li (Fire). The inner is fire, the outer is marsh. The heat from within dries up the water, like a fire burning in a marsh. This is the image of the Hexagram of Revolution. The superior person observes this and understands the cycles of rising and falling water levels and withering and flourishing vegetation, thus regulating the calendar and clarifying the seasons.

 

Song Yung's River Luo Principle Explanation:

Things change often, adhere to the right path; follow heaven and people, implement reform.

Mildly auspicious: Those who obtain this hexagram should make changes to eliminate the old and establish the new to adapt to the image of renewal, and they will be auspicious.

The 49th Hexagram of the 64 Hexagrams of the I Ching

Image Commentary A seedling faces a drought and gradually declines, but receives the grace of heaven and rain. Worry turns into joy, and change brings satisfaction to plans and endeavors.

This hexagram consists of two opposite trigrams, the lower one being Li (Fire) and the upper one being Dui (Marsh). Fire is in the lower position, and Marsh is in the upper. Water is above and flows down, while fire is below and rises up. When fire is strong, water dries up; when water is strong, fire goes out. They generate and destroy each other, inevitably leading to transformation. Transformation is the fundamental law of the universe.
