Eightieth Hexagram: Bi (Water over Earth)

Bi. Auspicious. Original divination, original and eternal truth, no fault. Unquiet states come, late ones are ominous.

The image says: There is water on the earth, which is Bi. The former kings established thousands of states and were close to the feudal lords.

Explanation in Common Language:

The Image Commentary says: The lower trigram is Kun, representing earth, and the upper trigram is Kan, representing water. It is like water on the earth, which is the image of the Bi Hexagram. This hexagram consists of two different trigrams (lower Kun, upper Kan), where Kun represents earth and Kan represents water. Water clings to the earth, and the earth absorbs rivers and seas, indicating dependence and intimacy. This hexagram is completely opposite to the Army Hexagram and is its complementary hexagram.
