Middle Upper Hexagram Water over Heaven (Need Hexagram) Wait for the Right Time

Chapter 5 of the 64 Hexagrams of the I Ching

Commentary A pearl buried in the earth for a long time becomes dark and dull, but when suddenly a strong wind blows away the soil, it naturally appears again.

This hexagram consists of two opposite trigrams, with the lower one being Qian (Heaven), symbolizing strength, and the upper one being Kan (Water), symbolizing danger. When strength meets danger, it is advisable to act steadily, not rashly. Observe the situation and wait for change; success will surely come.

Career The key lies in assessing the situation and waiting patiently. Success comes from calmness, not recklessness. One must have confidence, remain fearless in danger, and maintain integrity, which will turn dangers into safety. When the situation is favorable, still remain cautious.

Business At the beginning, the situation is difficult, and great patience is needed to create conditions and opportunities. Act honestly and observe the timing to achieve your goals. When close to success, be even more cautious, lest you fail at the last moment.

Seeking Fame The timing is not yet right, so patience is needed. During this time, one should remain firm in their beliefs, not be swayed by rumors, and enrich themselves. Seeking help from reliable people will lead to success.

Travel After full preparation, it can be safe and trouble-free.

Marriage Be cautious, do not act hastily. Gradually build affection, treat each other sincerely and warmly. There may be changes, but a good outcome is still possible. Both parties should understand the principle of softness overcoming hardness.

Decision Making The future is bright, with great aspirations and the possibility of realization. For this, one must accumulate strength and wait for the right time; great talents come late. One has a strong will and a calm mind. On the way forward, there will be difficulties and obstacles. One must be very cautious, remain calm in the face of slander, and remain composed when disasters strike. Do not act rashly, choose directions carefully. Be humble and open, and with others' help, success will be achieved. When the right time comes, everything will go smoothly.
