Lesson 11: Interpreting a Single Card
When I interpret a card, I perceive the card as a whole and repeatedly check each card. Two methods strengthen each other. In this lesson, we will see how to let a card explain itself in an interpretation. There are four sources:
Ⅰ: The first is that you have a unique reaction to the card based on your own background, personality, and mental state. This element can maintain the personal meaning and freshness of the card
Ⅱ: The second is the established meaning around the card over the years. These vary with different Tarot writers and teachers. My opinion is that each card has a specific meaning, see the CARD SECTION card section.
Ⅲ: The third is the meaning associated with the position of the card. This is also based on convention and experience. My opinion is in the Celtic Cross.
Ⅳ: The fourth is your question (see the beginning of §7 WRITING A QUESTION) or your life situation. This element can provide a framework for your reaction. It defines boundaries and helps you describe a card in a certain area of your life.
To interpret a card, you need to combine the meanings from these four sources and turn them into sentences. This is a changeable process. These areas may seem separate, but in practice, they blend together, and your reaction occurs naturally.
At first, you probably have to rely on the meaning of the card and its position to guide you. Later, your personal reaction becomes more important. The image of a card may trigger your reaction. The scene on the card seems to be directly related to your situation. For example, if you are building a house, the card THREE OF PENTACLES might affect your plans.
Assume you have a upright SEVEN OF CUPS in position 5. Your question is:
" How can I improve my luck to receive a dividend today?"
Start by reviewing this card, you will first notice your reaction. When you glance at it, the cups are filled with jewels, and your fortune is clearly presented on this cup. You think you have touched wealth. This fits your question - you are ready to accept this dividend.
Second, look at the keywords of SEVEN OF CUPS (see keywords). They are:
※Wishful thinking (viewing desires or wishes as identical to reality)
★Choice
◆Waste, distraction
When you read about actions (see actions), you will be influenced by the following:
★Deceiving yourself about the facts
◎Wait for your wealth to come
■Lack of focus and commitment
These phrases point out some people's negative and unrealistic aspects, some people's lack of spirit and the power to achieve success. They increase the number of realistic ideas. After reading the meaning of position 5 (see position 5), you feel closer to the desired outcome:
★Your illusions and fantasies
※What confuses you?
