Start of Summer
Start of Summer is the 7th solar term in the 24 solar terms of the Chinese lunar calendar, and the first solar term of summer. It marks the official start of the hot season, when the sun reaches 45 degrees of ecliptic longitude. When the compass points to the southeast, it is the Start of Summer. At this time, all things have grown large, hence the name "Start of Summer."This solar term was already established during the late Warring States period (239 BC), indicating the change of seasons, and marking the beginning of summer. According to "The Seven Twenty-four Solar Terms Collection": "Start of Summer, the fourth month. The character 'Li' means the same as in Spring. 'Xia' means 'temporary'. All things at this time are temporarily large."
