They are mainly divided into antithetical couplets, rhetorical couplets, and skillful couplets.
1. Antithetical Couplets: word antithesis, event antithesis, positive antithesis, opposite antithesis, strict antithesis, loose antithesis, flowing antithesis, palindrome antithesis, and top-down antithesis.
2. Rhetorical Couplets: metaphor, hyperbole, rhetorical question, double entendre, interrogation, and homophones.
3. Skillful Couplets: embedded characters, hidden characters, repeated characters, stacked characters, radicals, character analysis, character dissection, and numbers.
It should be balanced in level tones and have harmonious rhythm. The traditional practice is "starting with a check tone and ending with a flat tone," meaning the last character of the upper couplet uses a check tone, and the last character of the lower couplet uses a flat tone.
The parts of speech should be opposite, and the positions should be the same. It is generally called "virtual against virtual, real against real," that is, nouns against nouns, verbs against verbs, adjectives against adjectives, quantifiers against quantifiers, adverbs against adverbs, and the corresponding words must be in the same position.
