Daxue Solar Term Belongs to Mengdong or Zhongdong?

The Daxue solar term belongs to Zhongdong. Zhongdong, also known as Zhongdong, refers to the second month of winter, that is, the Zi month, which includes the Daxue and Dongzhi solar terms.
Meaning of Mengdong:
Mengdong, also called Xiaoyangchun, refers to the first month of each year's winter, that is, the Hai month in the Ganzhi calendar, containing two solar terms: Lidong and Xiaoxue. Mengdong corresponds to the tenth month of the lunar calendar.
Meaning of Zhongdong:
Zhongdong, also called Zhongdong, refers to the second month of winter, that is, the Zi month, which includes the Daxue and Dongzhi solar terms. It corresponds to the eleventh month of the lunar calendar.

Is the Weather During Daxue Good?

(1) Temperature Drop
The most common phenomenon during the Daxue solar term is temperature drop, rain, or snow. According to statistics, the month with the most strong cold air in China is the 11th lunar month. After the passage of strong cold air, the average temperature in most northern areas in December is between -20°C and -5°C, while the south will also experience rain or frost. Strong cold air often brings cloudy, rainy, or snowy days.
(2) Special Climate:
Snowfall (Heavy Snow)
Strong cold air often leads to large-scale snowfall or local heavy snow, but the snowfall is not the highest throughout the year. For example, in the Yellow River mid-lower reaches and surrounding areas of northern China, the maximum snowfall occurs during the Chunshui solar term in late February, which is similar to the reason for "Xiaoxue snow is more than Daxue". This is because by late February, the coldest period of the year has passed, and spring weather begins, with warm southern air currents becoming active, and water vapor becoming abundant. At this time, the northern cold air remains strong, and the strong confrontation between the warm and cold air masses causes the warm air mass to rise strongly and persistently over the dense cold air mass, potentially leading to heavy snowfall. Frozen Rain (Rime)
When strong cold air reaches the south, especially in Guizhou, Hunan, and Hubei, frozen rain can easily occur. Frozen rain is snowflakes falling from the upper cold layer, which sometimes melt into rain in the middle layer, and then become supercooled water droplets below 0°C in the lower cold layer. When these supercooled water droplets fall to the ground and touch any object, they immediately freeze, forming frozen rain. When frozen rain occurs, a layer of uneven ice shell appears on the ground and objects, causing great impact on transportation, power, and communication, and may also damage fruit trees. According to statistics in the book "Climate of the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River," frozen rain often occurs in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in December when the temperature is between -3°C and 0°C, with a probability of occurrence of 76%.
Rime (Frost)
According to statistics, from November each year to February of the following year, rime usually appears in Northwest, Northeast, and most parts of the Yangtze River Basin, especially in humid mountainous areas. Rime is a white ice crystal deposit formed by direct sublimation of water vapor in the air at low temperatures, or direct freezing of supercooled fog droplets on objects. Places with many rime days in China's winter include Heilongjiang, Jilin, northern Xinjiang, and northern Shaanxi. Rime is a natural beauty widely appreciated by people, but it can sometimes become a natural disaster, seriously breaking wires and trees, affecting transportation, power supply, and communication.
Ice Jam Floods
In winter, the river section in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, freezes and blocks the river, while the river in Lanzhou further south does not freeze. The river flows towards the frozen section, where the ice layer and ice dam block the upstream river water, causing the water level to rise and potentially leading to floods along the Baotou river section. If the strong cold air arrives later, ice jam disasters are likely to occur in December.
