If you visit the grave before the Ghost Festival, the spirits of your ancestors have not yet returned to the world of the living, so they will not be able to receive your offerings or prayers. Should you place three or four fruits on the grave?

Pear
Pears are a fruit with high market demand, but they are prohibited from being brought to graves. "Pear" sounds like "lizi" (separation), implying "parting and farewell," which conflicts with the idea of "family reunion" that is desired during ancestor worship.
