In Western countries, Christmas is a festival of family reunion and joy, and it is common to have a Christmas tree at home. In the West, regardless of whether people are Christians or not, they prepare a Christmas tree during Christmas to enhance the festive atmosphere. The Christmas tree is usually made of evergreen trees such as cypress or pine, symbolizing eternal life. It is decorated with various lights, colored flowers, toys, stars, and hanging Christmas gifts. On Christmas Eve, people gather around the Christmas tree to sing and dance, enjoying themselves heartily. Christmas decorations include the Christmas tree decorated with Christmas ornaments and lights, indoor decoration with wreaths and evergreen plants. In particular, holly and mistletoe are traditional materials used. In North and South America and some parts of Europe, it is traditional to decorate outdoors with lights, including illuminated sleighs, snowmen, and other Christmas figures. Traditional Christmas flowers include poinsettias (also known as "Euphorbia pulcherrima" or "Christmas flower," available in colors such as scarlet, pink, and white). Other Christmas plants also include holly, red amaryllis, and Christmas cactus.
Santa Claus
It is said that he was originally a bishop named Saint Nicholas from the city of Myra in Asia Minor. After his death, he was revered as a saint, a white-bearded old man wearing a red robe and a red hat. Every Christmas, he arrives from the north in a reindeer-drawn sleigh, enters homes through the chimney, and puts Christmas gifts into stockings, hanging them by children's beds or in front of fireplaces.
Christmas Tree
It is said that there was a farmer who, on a snowy Christmas night, welcomed a hungry and cold child, offering him a rich Christmas dinner. When the child left, he broke a branch of cypress and planted it in the ground, blessing it saying, "Every year on this day, the branches will be filled with gifts, keeping this beautiful cypress to repay your kindness." After the child left, the farmer found that the branch had turned into a small tree, and he realized that the child he had welcomed was actually an angel of God. This story became the origin of the Christmas tree.
