On July 11, 1933, the Provisional Central Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic, based on the proposal from the Central Revolutionary Military Commission on June 30, decided that August 1 would be the anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. On June 15, 1949, the Chinese People's Revolutionary Military Commission issued an order, stipulating that the characters "August 1" ("八一") would be the main symbol of the flag and emblem of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, this anniversary was renamed as the Army Day of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
