On Father's Day, people choose specific flowers to represent respect for fathers. People adopted Mrs. Dodd's suggestion, wearing red roses to express love for living fathers and white roses to show mourning for deceased fathers. Later in Vancouver, people chose to wear white lilacs, while people in Pennsylvania used dandelions to honor fathers. Red or white roses are widely recognized as the traditional flowers of Father's Day. Father's Day became a formal holiday across the United States, which took longer to establish than Mother's Day. Because the idea of establishing Father's Day was very popular, merchants and manufacturers began to see business opportunities. They not only encouraged children to send cards to their fathers, but also motivated them to buy small gifts such as ties and socks for their fathers to express respect.

In addition, on Father's Day, the breakfast is prepared by the children. Parents don't have to get up early in the morning and can continue to sleep. The children prepare the breakfast and bring it to their parents' bedside for them to enjoy.
