The third Sunday of June is Father's Day. Compared to Mother's Day, Father's Day is a less familiar holiday for many people. It was initiated by Mrs. Dodd in Seattle, Washington in 1910.
The origin of Father's Day in our country dates back to the Nationalist era. On August 8th, 1945 (the 34th year of the Republic of China), Shanghai celebrities launched an activity to celebrate Father's Day, and the citizens immediately responded enthusiastically, holding a lively celebration. After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, prominent figures from all walks of life in Shanghai jointly requested the Shanghai Municipal Government to submit a proposal to the central government, designating August 8th, which sounds like "Dad" in Chinese, as a national Father's Day.
Although today's general public does not celebrate Father's Day with the same level of attention and enthusiasm as Mother's Day, God teaches us in the Bible that we should show equal care and love for our parents. While mothers have been nurturing us with great effort, fathers have also been fulfilling their gentle role as assigned by God. Perhaps when we are thinking about what kind of gift to buy for our fathers on Father's Day, we should reflect on whether we truly love our fathers as they have selflessly given their lives for us.
