In order to enable the youth to inherit and carry forward the glorious tradition of the May Fourth Movement, in 1939, the Northwest Youth Salvation Federation of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region stipulated May 4th as the Chinese Youth Day. On December 23, 1949, the State Council of the Chinese People's Government officially established May 4th as China's Youth Day.
In April 2008, with the approval of the State Council Legislative Affairs Office, the "Youth Day" holiday applied to young people aged 14 to 28, and over 300 million young people would be given a half-day holiday on May 4th every year.
According to the provisions of the "Regulations on National Holidays and Memorial Day Holidays" announced by the State Council, "Youth Day (May 4th), young people over 14 years old are given a half-day holiday," but this regulation did not clearly specify an upper age limit for the applicable population.
After further clarifying the upper age limit, there will be more than 300 million young people aged between 14 and 28 who can legally enjoy a half-day holiday on Youth Day, feeling the care and concern from society.
The "Regulations" pointed out that all departments and employers should voluntarily comply with the provisions of the "Regulations on National Holidays and Memorial Day Holidays" and effectively safeguard the right of young people to take leave.
