The customs of the Qingming Festival are very rich and diverse. In addition to the practices of avoiding fire and tomb sweeping, there are activities such as spring outings, swinging on swings, cuju (an ancient Chinese football game), horse polo, and planting willows. According to legend, this is because the Qingming Festival involves a cold food period, and to prevent the cold food from harming the body, people participate in physical activities to strengthen their health. Therefore, the festival contains both the sorrowful tears of mourning new graves and the joy of spring outings, making it a unique and meaningful festival.

  Swinging
This is a traditional custom of the Qingming Festival in ancient China. The word "swing" means pulling the leather rope and moving forward. Its history is very old, and it was originally called "Qianqiu." Later, it was changed to "swinging" to avoid an unlucky term. In ancient times, swings were usually made of tree branches with colorful ribbons tied on them. Over time, they gradually evolved into swings with two ropes and a platform. Swinging not only improves physical health but also helps cultivate bravery, and it is still popular among people, especially children.

  Cuju
"Cuju" refers to a leather ball filled with feathers. "Cu" means to kick, so Cuju is the act of kicking the ball with one's feet. It was a popular game during the Qingming Festival in ancient times. According to legend, it was invented by the Yellow Emperor, and its original purpose was to train soldiers.

  Spring Outings
Also known as spring tours. In ancient times, it was called "exploring spring" or "seeking spring." By March, when the Qingming Festival arrives, spring returns, and nature is full of vitality, making it the perfect time for outdoor trips. The custom of spring outings has been maintained by the Chinese people for a long time.

  Planting Trees
Around the time of Qingming, the sun shines warmly, and the spring rain falls gently, making it a high survival rate and fast-growing period for planting tree seedlings. Therefore, since ancient times, the Chinese have had the habit of planting trees during Qingming. Some even refer to the Qingming Festival as the "Tree Planting Festival." This tradition of planting trees has continued until today. In 1979, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress designated March 12th each year as China's Tree Planting Day. This has great significance in mobilizing the entire nation to actively carry out greening efforts for the country.

  Flying Kites
It is also a popular activity during the Qingming Festival. During this time, people not only fly kites during the day but also at night. At night, small colored lanterns are hung under the kite or on the string, resembling twinkling stars, known as "Divine Lamps." In the past, some people would cut the string after flying the kite into the sky, letting the wind carry it to distant places, believing that this could eliminate illness and misfortune, bringing good luck.
