Moles on the back of the hand slowly growing larger — why?

Black moles are the deposition of melanin in the skin. Generally speaking, moles grow larger because the deposition of melanin increases. However, this does not rule out the possibility of a lesion. If it is malignant, it can be very serious.
If black moles undergo any of the following changes, you should be alert and seek medical examination early to prevent cancer:
1. Sudden or continuous elevation
Especially when a previously flat benign pigmented mole becomes clearly elevated.
2. Change in shape
Benign moles are generally round, with clear boundaries and regular edges from the surrounding normal skin. When malignancy occurs, the edges may become irregular, such as jagged or other shapes, and the pigment may spread and blend into the surrounding normal skin.
For example, the edges of a previously round mole begin to become irregular, the shape is no longer symmetrical, and the boundary with the surrounding skin is unclear.
3. Change in size
Generally, the diameter of a benign pigmented mole is less than six millimeters. If we find that a mole has grown larger, we should be alert.
4. Changes in the surface of the skin
A benign pigmented mole has a smooth and flat surface without other pathological phenomena. If there is flaking, erosion, exudation, scabbing, or bleeding, it is a sign of concern.
5. Color change
A benign pigmented mole has a uniform color, ranging from dark brown to black, without other colors. Once it becomes malignant, multiple colors may appear, including dark brown, black, red, pink, white, blue, etc. These colors usually first appear at the edge of the mole and gradually spread to the surrounding normal skin.
6. Change in hardness
A benign pigmented mole has a uniform hardness and a soft yet not too soft texture. If you suddenly notice it becoming "softened" or "brittle", it is a cause for concern.
