Tu Zongying: (1811-1894), a Qing official. Born in Lu'an, Anhui, his style name was Langxuan. He was responsible for handling supplies for Zeng Guofan's Xiang Army and was appointed as the magistrate of Jiangning. In the ninth year of Tongzhi (1870), he was promoted to the position of Sushantai Dao. He eventually held the post of Hunan Bureau Commissioner. In the second year of Guangxu (1876), he was promoted to the position of Governor of Guangxi. He issued orders to all prefectures and counties to build schools extensively and encouraged ethnic minority children to attend school. He was later transferred to the position of Governor of Henan and then served as the Viceroy of Huguang. In the ninth year, he was removed from office but retained his position.Tu Qixian: (1834-1900), a reformist in late Qing dynasty. His style name was Shunchen, and scholars called him "Mr. Daweiyu". Born in Liuyang, Hunan. A county scholar. At the age of forty, he was selected as an outstanding candidate and was appointed as a reserve instructor. Later, he was selected as a Han teacher at the Banners Official School but did not take up the post. He failed the imperial examination several times, so he gave up on the civil service examination. He once traveled through the military offices of Hunan and Hubei. In the eighth year of Guangxu (1822), he became the head of the Shangdong Tuan in Liuyang and served for eighteen years. Within the Tuan, he established the Weishan Academy and taught students. His academic focus was on understanding principles and applying knowledge, and he studied both Chinese and Western subjects. During the Wuxu Reform period, he supported Tan Sitong in establishing the Liuyang Mathematics Society and presided over the county primary school. He later died of illness.
Tu Jingtao: An official of the Qing dynasty. His style name was Ziheng, born in Changsha, Hunan. A graduate of the imperial examination in 1875 (Jiahai). In the 24th year (1898), he was appointed as the Sea Defense Assistant Officer of Jinzhou City (Jin County, Liaoning). The following year, he was appointed by the Qing government as a "special commissioner" to inspect the Russian concession in the southern part of the Liaodong Peninsula and signed specific terms.
