Miao Jingqing, courtesy name Yuangfu, was born in Huguan County, Lu Zhou (now in Shanxi Province) during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian in the first year of Guangzhi (684 AD). His ancestors were well-known for their Confucian learning, and his father served as a minor official. As a child, Miao Jingqing studied diligently, especially excelling in writing. He passed the imperial examination and entered a long political career. He was active on the political stage during the reigns of Emperor Xuanzong, Emperor Suzong, and Emperor Daizong of the Tang Dynasty.

Miao Fa, [Tang] (active around 755 AD), whose name is unknown, was from Huguan, Lu Zhou. He was one of the Ten Talents of Dali. His birth and death years are unknown, but he was active around the end of the Tianbao period of Emperor Xuanzong. He initially served as a county magistrate, then was appointed as an assistant officer in the Ministry of War, and later promoted to an assistant officer in the Ministry of Rites. He eventually became a senior official. Miao Fa often exchanged poems with famous scholars of his time, but few of his poems have been passed down.

Miao Xun: From Hedong (now Yijin, Shanxi), a high-ranking official at the beginning of the Song Dynasty. He was skilled in astronomy and weather prediction, and once predicted Zhao Kuanyin's coup at Chenqiao in the military camp.

Miao Lü, from Luzhou (now Changzhi, Shanxi), was the son of General Miao Shou of the Northern Song Dynasty. He began his military career as a commander of the Zhengrong Army (located in Guyuan, Ningxia), successively holding positions such as Commander of the Four Guard Units of the Dragon God, Commander of Chengzhou, Governor of Qingzhou, and later transferred to Weizhou. He was promoted to Commander of the Puyue and Tianwu Armies. He was a renowned general of the Northern Song Dynasty.

Miao Shou (1029–1095), a Northern Song Dynasty general. His courtesy name was Shouzhi, and he was from Luzhou (now Changzhi, Shanxi). As a youth, he studied under Hu Yizhi and was appointed as a student at the National Academy. He gradually rose through the ranks as Deputy Director of the Supply Department. He served as a vanguard in Wang Yao's campaign to capture Zhen Tao and captured Keno City, thereby gaining control over the He River and the Huang River regions. He defeated Gui Zhang and was appointed as the governor of Hezhou. He defeated the Qiang people on Lu Gu Mountain, capturing the leader Lengjipu, and over ten thousand Qiang families submitted, making him a respected general in the western region of Tao. He was appointed as Commander of the Four Guard Units of the Dragon God and later transferred to be the governor of Xizhou. During the Yuanfeng era, he attacked the Western Xia, built a city in Lanzhou, and fought for thousands of miles. In the third year of Yuanshuo (1088), he was promoted to the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Wutai Army and Deputy Commander of the Palace Guards, and served as the governor of Luzhou. He died and was posthumously awarded the title of Grand Tutor and the honorific title "Zhuangmin."

Miao Fu (ca. 1129), a Southern Song Dynasty general. He was from Shangdang (now Changzhi, Shanxi). When the Empress Dowager Longyou (descendant of Emperor Zhezong) moved south, he served as a commander and was stationed in Lin'an (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang).

Miao Daorun (?–1218), a minister of the Jin Dynasty. At the beginning of the Zhengyou period, he was the leader of the Hebei militia. When Emperor Xuanzong moved to Bianjing, the Hebei militia gathered to resist the Mongol forces. He was described in the "History of the Jin Dynasty" as "brave and wise, daring to fight, and capable of winning the hearts of the people." He eventually reached the rank of General of the Horse and the Inspector of the Zhongdu Road, overseeing the affairs of Zhongshan Prefecture (present-day Dingzhou, Hebei). He pacified more than fifty cities. In the first year of Xingding (1217), he was ordered to recover Zhongdu, but clashed with other generals. The following year, he was killed by Jia Yu of Yizhou. His troops were later led by his subordinate Jing Anmin.

Miao Haokian, a person of the Yuan Dynasty. Initially serving as an official in the Censorate, he was promoted to the position of Assistant Officer in the Jiangdong Inspection Office in the third year of Yanwu (1316). Because of his expertise in promoting sericulture, the emperor bestowed him with a set of clothing. Later, he entered the court as the Assistant Minister of Agriculture and wrote "The Art of Planting Mulberry Trees" and "A Compilation of Agricultural and Sericultural Affairs," which received praise from the emperor: "Agriculture and sericulture are the foundation of food and clothing; this diagram is very good." He was ordered to print 1,000 copies and distribute them among the people. He was subsequently promoted to the position of Chief Censor.

Miao Zuotu (ca. 1646), from Zehou, Shansi Circuit (now Jincheng, Shanxi), was a political figure and jinshi scholar during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.

Miao Pailin (?–1863), courtesy name Yusan, was from Fengtai, Anhui. He was a scholar who originally worked as a tutor. In 1856, he organized a local militia and fought against the Taiping rebels. Later, his power grew, and he controlled the taxation of two Huai regions and levies, controlling dozens of counties around Fengtai, establishing a regional stronghold. The next year, he joined the Qing general Shengbao, then followed Yuan Jia San in attacking the Taiping rebels in Su Zhou, and eventually reached the rank of director.
