Xie Jian
Zi Dao Hui, from Jin Yang, Jinxian. According to the "Book of Jin": as a child, he was poor and isolated, but he read extensively, worked on the fields, and recited without end, becoming famous for his noble character. He did not accept the appointment by the state. During a famine, the scholars of the region, who had always respected his moral character, provided him with support. Xie Jian then distributed these gifts to the poor and elderly in his village, and many people were saved by his help. When Emperor Yuan first came to power, he was appointed as the General of Dragon Soaring and Governor of Yanzhou. At the beginning of Emperor Ming's reign, he was promoted to the General of Anxi, Governor of Yanzhou, overseeing the military affairs of Yangzhou and Jiangxi, and stationed at Hefei. Later, he became the General of Chariot Cavalry, overseeing the military affairs of Xu (Zhou), Yan (Zhou), and Qing (Zhou), and served as the Governor of Yanzhou. In the early years of Xianghe, he also served as the Governor of Xuzhou. At that time, Zu Yue and Su Jun rebelled, threatening the survival of the country. Xie Jian led his army to quell the rebellion and eventually reached the position of Grand Chancellor, ennobled as the Duke of Nanchang. After his death, he was buried on the eastern shore of Weishan Lake at Xishan.
Xie Chao
Zi Jingxing (336-377), also known as Jiabin, from Gao Ping, Jinxian (now in Shandong Province), was an official of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Xie Chao's grandfather was the famous minister Xie Jian of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and his father was Xie Yin. Xie Chao was the eldest son of Xie Yin. As a child, he was "outstanding and unrestrained, possessing a rare and extraordinary demeanor, and often sought excellence among scholars. He was good at discussion and had profound understanding." ("Biography of Xie Chao" in the Book of Jin). Xie Yin believed in Taoism, while Xie Chao believed in Buddhism. Xie Yin was fond of accumulating wealth, with several million in money, and once opened the treasury for Xie Chao to take whatever he wanted. Xie Chao, however, was generous, and within a single day, gave all the money away to relatives and friends. Early on, he was appointed as the assistant to the Grand Tutor by the Prince of Kuaiji, Sima Yu. Later, he was summoned by Huan Wen as the Assistant to the Grand General. In 371 AD, Xie Chao helped Huan Wen plan and support Sima Yu to become Emperor Jianwen of Jin, and was promoted to the position of Assistant to the Secretariat, in charge of important state affairs.
Xie Lu
A person from the Three Kingdoms period, from Gao Ping, who served as the Minister of Light and the Chief Censor, and was renowned for his knowledge due to his studies under Zheng Xuan.
Xie Shi Mei
A general during the Tang Dynasty. He was intelligent and at the age of 12, could recite the "Five Classics," "Records of the Grand Historian," and "History of the Han Dynasty." His father's friends, such as Xiao Yingshi and Yan Zhenqing, all praised him as a prodigy. At the age of 20, he served as the Assistant Magistrate of Yangdi, and through successive promotions, became the Minister of Works and the Minister of Punishment. Later, he was promoted to the General of Zhao Yi and Zhong Wu armies. He was clean in office and especially valued his promises.
Xie Deyu
His stage name was Ma Zi Hong. A modern Qin Opera performer.
