An aquarium should not be placed in an auspicious position
An aquarium is an excellent way to neutralize external negative energies. In feng shui, there is a saying called “directing water into the empty hall,” where “empty hall” refers to an inauspicious or declining position. The meaning is to bring water into the inauspicious position, which can turn misfortune into good fortune and turn danger into safety. Therefore, an aquarium should be placed in an inauspicious position rather than an auspicious one, as it can effectively neutralize external negative energies.
An aquarium should not be placed behind the sofa
In previous articles, we mentioned that the placement of the sofa should have a "mountain" behind it, meaning the sofa should ideally be against a wall or a large cabinet. However, this kind of "mountain" does not include an aquarium. From the perspective of feng shui, using water as a "mountain" is inappropriate, because water is flexible and changeable, making it unstable as a support. Of course, if the aquarium is simply placed next to the sofa, it is not a big problem.
An aquarium must not be placed in the wealth position
People often say, “Wealth belongs to the wealth position.” In the wealth position, things that enhance wealth should be placed. The three deities of blessing, longevity, and prosperity are the best choices, adding further prosperity. Placing an aquarium in the wealth position is a serious mistake. If the wealth deity is placed elsewhere, it contradicts the principle of “wealth belongs to the wealth position.” If the wealth deity is placed above the aquarium, it violates the feng shui taboo of “the guardian spirit going underwater,” which may lead to financial loss.
An aquarium should not face the stove
In feng shui, water and fire are incompatible. An aquarium belongs to water, while the stove in the kitchen belongs to fire. Therefore, if the aquarium in the living room is aligned with the stove in the kitchen, it violates the taboo. When the aquarium and the stove face each other, it can cause conflicts within the family, harming family relationships. Since water can overcome fire, those who are associated with the fire (the stove) will be affected. Family members cooking near the stove may also suffer from the consequences.
The size of the aquarium should be moderate
The size of the aquarium should not be too large. Water is very important in feng shui, but too much or too deep water is not good. A large aquarium stores a lot of water, and if the aquarium is higher than the eye level of an adult when standing, it is considered too high. Therefore, the aquarium in the living room should not be too high, especially for small living rooms. Moreover, a large aquarium is difficult to clean.
The purpose of the aquarium is to adjust feng shui and beautify the living room. If it instead harms feng shui, it would be counterproductive. Therefore, the placement of the aquarium in the living room must not violate feng shui taboos.
