What Are the Feng Shui Considerations Around a House?

From the perspective of Feng Shui, most houses with good Feng Shui are built adjacent to mountains and water. The reason why a house should have a mountain for support is mainly to protect against wind, and secondly to provide a sense of inner peace and stability for the residents. What are the considerations for the surrounding Feng Shui of a house?

The Surrounding Feng Shui of a House: What Are the Considerations?

1. A house's layout is best when it is lower in front and higher at the back.
The logic is simple. A house with a lower front and higher back creates a "mountain embracing the people" feeling, which usually does not experience strong winds, making people feel secure with something to rely on behind them. It also allows for a view of the scenery in front, bringing a clear mind and a confident feeling, which naturally contributes to prosperity and good fortune.
2. The slope of the "back mountain" should be gentle rather than steep.
If the slope behind the house is too steep, then the mountain becomes a "dangerous rock" hanging above the head, increasing the risk of being hit by landslides. This is similar to sleeping next to a dangerous wall, which is not an ideal Feng Shui arrangement and is not considered proper for a gentleman.
3. The area in front of the house should be flat and open, not steep or collapsing.
It is especially unsuitable to build a house on the edge of a cliff. Because cliffs are dangerous, even if the owner is fearless and does not suffer from acrophobia, it is not conducive to the lives of other family members. Children playing there lack safe space, and if a tragic accident occurs where someone falls off the cliff, it would be a great loss.
4. If the house is on a mountain, it is better to build it on the middle part of the mountain rather than the top.
This is because the top of a mountain is too high, which creates the "lonely evil star," which is not only remote and lacks people, but also makes the surroundings too open, giving a lonely feeling. Moreover, it is more likely to be struck by lightning and strong winds, resulting in low safety. Therefore, many wealthy people in Hong Kong build their villas and mansions on the mid-slopes of mountains, not on the peaks.
