What is the Three Harmonies?
The three harmonies refer to the combination of the Earthly Branches: Zi Wu Xu form the Fire Harmony, Hai Mao Wei form the Wood Harmony, Shen Zi Chen form the Water Harmony, and Si You Chou form the Metal Harmony. Among all combinations, only the three harmonies can be transformed. For example, Shen Zi Chen form the Water Harmony, etc. The three harmonies are formed by the combination of the long life, imperial power, and tomb of the Five Elements, similar to forming a group in social relations. The main feature of the three harmonies is a shared goal and core, where the central elements (Zi, Wu, Mao, You) are considered as the leaders or guidelines. The other two elements are supporting elements. The three harmonies have a certain degree of closeness, but it is less than that of the Six Harmonies. Therefore, there is a saying that the Six Harmonies can resolve the Three Harmonies. When determining the timing of marital events, the three harmonies are often used. It should be noted that whether the three harmonies are formed or not has no relation to whether the Heavenly Stems share the same element or not. The three harmonies are not considered as being bound together. Each element within the harmony has a certain degree of freedom and can still act on other elements. However, because of the harmonious relationship, they all align towards the "group", naturally causing changes in their strength. One, the change of power among each element in the three harmonies and semi-harmonies
1. The three harmonies of Shen Zi Chen form the Water Harmony.Chen itself has weak earth energy, and when it forms a harmony, it becomes even weaker. If there is no original element to support it, it will lose its earth nature and be washed away by water; Shen metal is drained by water, reducing its strength, but it does not change its nature; of course, Zi water increases its strength.
2. The three harmonies of Hai Mao Wei form the Wood Harmony.
Wei is a storehouse for wood, and it becomes weak due to the three harmonies; Hai water nourishes Mao wood, and Hai water also loses strength.
3. The three harmonies of Si You Chou form the Fire Harmony.
Si is the only "chameleon" among the twelve earthly branches, and its five elements properties change according to the strength of water and fire in the harmony. This was already discussed in "The Alternative Characteristics of the Five Elements and the Heavenly Stems." Chou earth nourishes You metal, and it is originally weak in earth energy. When it forms a harmony, it becomes even weaker.
4. The three harmonies of Yin Wu Xu form the Fire Harmony.
Yin wood is drained by producing fire; Xu is strengthened by the strong fire in the harmony.
5. Since the strength of the semi-harmony is less than that of the three harmonies, the power change of the two elements forming the semi-harmony is not significant.
Two, the characteristics of the semi-harmony
Among the three harmonies, two can also form a harmony, which is called a semi-harmony. Its strength is naturally less than that of the three harmonies.1. The semi-harmony of the source: Hai Mao form the Wood Harmony, Yin Wu form the Fire Harmony, Shen Zi form the Water Harmony, and Si You form the Metal Harmony.
2. The semi-harmony of the tomb: Mao Wei form the Wood Harmony, Wu Xu form the Fire Harmony, You Chou form the Metal Harmony, and Zi Chen form the Water Harmony.
3. The arching harmony: Hai Wei form the Wood Harmony, Yin Xu form the Fire Harmony, Si Chou form the Metal Harmony, and Shen Chen form the Water Harmony. The arching harmony lacks the central element,
Three, the application of the three harmonies and semi-harmonies
2. The three harmonies, semi-harmonies, and arching harmonies are often used in fate analysis to determine the timing of marriage.3. The Six Harmonies can resolve the Three Harmonies. If the central element of the Three Harmonies has a Six Harmony relationship with another branch, the Three Harmonies will be damaged. Because the Six Harmonies are more tightly connected than the Three Harmonies, the central element will tend toward the Six Harmonies and be considered as being bound. For example, if the first or last branch of the Three Harmonies has a Six Harmony, the Six Harmony will be considered first, and the remaining branches will be treated as a semi-three harmony.
4. The Three Harmonies most fear being clashed. For example, if the Three Harmonies of Hai Mao Wei (Wood Harmony) is mixed with one of the Si You Chou (Metal Harmony), and that element is tightly adjacent to the element of the Wood Harmony, then the Three Harmonies of Wood will be broken. If You breaks the central element Mao, then the Three Harmonies of Wood will not form. If Si breaks Hai, although the Three Harmonies of Wood do not form, Mao Wei may still form a harmony. The same applies to other cases. The central element of the Three Harmonies is the most important. If the major cycle comes to clash with the central element of the Three Harmonies, the Three Harmonies will be destroyed.
