Marriage is an evergreen topic in life. Whether men or women, everyone wants to have a happy marriage. So, which eight-character (Ba Zi) combinations lead to marital difficulties? Harmonious marriage is the foundation of family happiness, and a happy marriage cannot be separated from the compatibility of Ba Zi. If you want to know more, come to the Ba Zi marriage compatibility analysis and take a look!

Unfavorable Marriage Stars in the Destiny Chart

In a man's chart, the financial star represents his wife. If there are many financial stars in the chart and they are considered harmful (zhi), or if the financial stars are not present in the chart, or if they are weak and inactive, and the competitive stars (bi jie) are strong, it indicates an unfavorable marriage. In a woman's chart, the official star (guan) or the killing star (sha) represents her husband. If there are many official or killing stars in the chart and they are considered harmful, or if they are not present in the chart, or if they are weak and inactive, and the competitive stars are strong, it also indicates an unfavorable marriage. If a man’s four pillars lack financial stars or are purely yang or yin, it is called a "monk or Taoist" destiny. Similarly, if a woman’s four pillars lack official or killing stars or are purely yin or yang, it is referred to as an "ascetic" destiny.

Conflict or Injury in the Marriage Palace

The earth branch under the day stem is the marriage palace, which is the key to analyzing marriage. If the marriage palace is in conflict (liu chong) or injury (xiong), it is difficult to achieve a harmonious marriage. The marriage palace should avoid being in conflict with the main year's earth branch, the great fortune's earth branch, or the annual heavenly stem and earth branch. Particularly, conflicts between the day and month branches or the day and hour branches are most severe, leading inevitably to separation or even death. The marriage palace should also avoid three-way injuries such as those involving the branches of tiger, snake, and monkey (yin, si, shen), or the branches of ox, dog, and sheep (chou, wei, xu), or the injury between the branches of rat and rabbit (zi, mao). When either man or woman encounters such conflicts or injuries, their marriages are often unstable, with a higher chance of divorce.

Day Stem Sitting on Competitive Stars

When the day stem sits on the same type of competitive stars (bi jie), it means the spouse's palace shares the same energy as the day stem. This includes the twelve days: Jia Yin, Yi Mao, Bing Wu, Ding Si, Wu Xu, Wu Chen, Ji Wei, Ji Chou, Geng Shen, Xin You, Ren Zi, Gui Hai. If the spouse's palace sits on the competitive stars, these stars represent brothers and are symbols of competition and conflict. For a man, the financial star represents his wife. If the wife's star does not enter the spouse's palace and instead is occupied by the competing stars, it suggests that the wife's star is being attacked or competed for, making the marriage unstable. For a woman, the official or killing star represents her husband. If the husband's star does not enter the spouse's palace, and the spouse's palace is occupied by competitive stars that clash with the husband's star, it indicates that the husband's star is being competed for, increasing the possibility of separation. Hence, the ancient people called some of these day stems “Guluansha” (lonely phoenix evil) and “Bazhuanyu Shasha” (eight special lustful evil), clearly indicating that these combinations are signs of poor marriage and high divorce rates.

Shangguan Formation or Day Stem Sitting on Shangguan for Women

A woman with a Shangguan (伤官) formation, where the Shangguan star is in the month stem and appears on the heavenly stem, forming a "Shangguan Pattern," or a woman whose chart contains many Shangguan or Shi Shen (食神) stars, or a woman who sits on Shangguan in her day stem, usually has unique talents or an elegant appearance, or both. Most of these women are strong-willed and successful, often surpassing men. Due to their strong wills, they may be too assertive, have high expectations, like to criticize others, and tend to dominate, easily hurting their partner's self-esteem and causing conflicts. They often break up with partners and find it hard to grow old together, which is a common cause of marital problems and turbulent love lives.

Consecutive Characters in Heavenly Stems or Earthly Branches

An ancient saying goes: “If the heavenly stems are consecutive, it brings loneliness and misfortune; if the earthly branches are consecutive, it leads to two marriages.” Consecutive heavenly stems refer to a situation where the four pillars’ heavenly stems all share the same element, such as Jia Chen, Jia Xu, Jia Yin, Jia Zi. This kind of configuration causes overlapping of the same type of stems, and even if the earthly branches contain financial or official stars, there will be disputes over wealth (wife) or power (husband). Consecutive earthly branches mean that the four pillars' earthly branches all share the same element, such as Ji Hai, Yi Hai, Xin Hai, Ji Hai. These types of charts often result in a strong body without support, excessive financial stars, or excessive official or killing stars, or excessive food or injury stars. If the day stem can abandon its fate and follow the other elements, it can still maintain a noble position; otherwise, it will lead to failure. Therefore, whether male or female, people with consecutive characters in the heavenly stems or earthly branches often face marital difficulties, with inevitable ups and downs in their relationships.
