Avoid the Third, Seventh, and Ninth Months
It is best to avoid the third, seventh, and ninth months in the lunar calendar, as these months coincide with the traditional "Ghost Festivals": "Qingming" (Tomb Sweeping Day), "Yulan" (Hungry Ghost Festival), and "Chonggong" (Double Ninth Festival). These are not suitable times for weddings. The eighth month, which is the "Mid-Autumn Festival" and typically falls on the full moon, is the most suitable time for a wedding.
Avoid the "Three Mothers' Sorrow"
It is said that the God of Marriage did not tie the red string for the "Third Mother," preventing her from getting married. Out of revenge, she opposes the God of Marriage and specifically disrupts happy events. Therefore, on the days when the "Three Mothers' Sorrow" occurs—namely, the 3rd, 7th, 13th, 18th, 22nd, and 27th of each lunar month—it is not advisable to get married.
Choose a Leap Year and a Leap Month
Chinese people place great importance on selecting a wedding date and pay special attention to the concepts of "leap year" and "leap month." A leap year occurs every two or three years, characterized by having two "Lichun" (Start of Spring) periods and one "leap month." It is best to choose a wedding date during a leap year.
Marriage Selection Method
The principle of selecting an auspicious day for marriage is mainly based on the birth date of the bride, while also taking into account the birth dates of the groom and others. As the saying goes: "A son relies on his birth time, while a daughter relies on her marriage year." Therefore, if this principle is reversed or ignored, it may lead to problems in the marriage, even divorce. On the contrary, it will bring great luck and happiness.
