Is the Day Pillar Fuyin Period Especially Good or Particularly Bad?
Published: 2026/01/17   Author: jinqi   Source: network

In the study of Yixue (Chinese metaphysics), the "Fu Yin" (伏吟) of the day pillar is a commonly discussed topic. Some people believe that when the "Fu Yin" day pillar coincides with the major fortune cycle, it is especially good, while others think it is particularly bad. So, how can we determine whether the "Fu Yin" day pillar in the major fortune cycle is auspicious or inauspicious? This article will combine the theories of Zhongtian Yixue and analyze the auspiciousness and inauspiciousness of the "Fu Yin" day pillar in the major fortune cycle through a case study of a female's eight-character birth chart.

Definition and Impact of Fu Yin

Fu means repetition, and Yin here refers to lamentation. When a column in the four pillars or the major fortune cycle has the same heavenly stem and earthly branch as the year of the zodiac, it is called "Fu Yin." The book says: "Fan Yin and Fu Yin bring tears and sorrow." This indicates that "Fu Yin" is not good. In reality, "Fu Yin" itself is neither auspicious nor inauspicious; it merely represents a certain meaning and should be judged based on the favorable or unfavorable elements in the birth chart. If the use element (yongshen) is in "Fu Yin," it brings auspiciousness; if the adverse element (jishen) is in "Fu Yin," it brings inauspiciousness.

Case Analysis of the Eight-Character Chart

Let us now explain this with a case study of a female's eight-character birth chart combined with the Zhongtian Yixue Universal Timing Ruler:

Kun: Xinchou, Jiwu, Rengwu, Guimao

1. First, determine the strength and weakness: The壬 (Ren) water was born in the fifth month (Wu), which is a time of imprisonment (zhong). There are four supporting elements and four opposing elements. The birth chart is clearly weak in nature.

2. Find the Taiji point: For a weak chart, the use elements are the印 (Yin) and 比 (Bi). Both Xin (Xin) gold and Gui (Gui) water can serve as the use element. According to the theory of Zhongtian Yixue for selecting the Taiji point, we take the Gui (Gui) water in the hour stem as the Taiji point.

3. Check if the Taiji point has changed: According to the principle that if there are strong supportive elements around the Taiji point, the Taiji point shifts to that element. Since there are no strong supportive elements around the Gui (Gui) water in the hour stem except for the day stem Ren (Ren), the Taiji point does not shift.

4. Determine the major number of the layer, i.e., the major fortune cycle of the life: Since Gui (Gui) water is the Taiji point, and the birth chart shows a battle between water and fire, there must be a critical moment in the middle age. Therefore, we take the middle number. The Zhongtian number for Gui (Gui) water is 2, 5, or 8. Hence, we take the number 5, indicating a critical moment between the ages of 40 and 50.

5. Determine the small number of the layer, i.e., the specific year: According to the principle that the major Taiji looks at the momentum, and the minor Taiji looks at its function. To determine the specific year with a major turning point, we look at the power and function of the minor Taiji. We conclude that there was a major turning point around the age of 42.

6. Determine the specific year: From 40 years old (Gengchen), 41 (Xinsi), 42 (Rengwu), 43 (Guizhi), and 44 (Jiashen). The Gengchen and Jiashen years provide support for water, so they do not bring significant disasters. However, the Si, Wu, and Wei years pose a greater danger to the birth chart. Considering all factors, 2002 was the year of the day pillar "Fu Yin." According to the Zhongtian Yixue thinking, "When the day pillar is in Fu Yin, there are often difficulties; don't blame heaven for death, illness, or disability." Therefore, we concluded that there would be a turning point in the year of Ren Wu (42 years old). In fact, she passed away in Beijing on October 20, 2002, at 19:40, at the age of 42.

Scientific Nature of the Yixue System

Our Yixue system is a scientific theory of Yixue that is regularized, digitized, and theoretical. It is simple and clear. Through the above analysis, we can see that the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness of the "Fu Yin" day pillar in the major fortune cycle is not absolute, but rather depends on the favorable or unfavorable elements in the birth chart. If the use element is in "Fu Yin," it brings auspiciousness; if the adverse element is in "Fu Yin," it brings inauspiciousness. Therefore, we cannot simply say that the "Fu Yin" day pillar in the major fortune cycle is especially good or bad, but should analyze each case specifically.

Through the analysis of the "Fu Yin" day pillar in the major fortune cycle, we can draw the conclusion that the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness of the "Fu Yin" day pillar in the major fortune cycle is not absolute, but depends on the favorable or unfavorable elements in the birth chart. If the use element is in "Fu Yin," it brings auspiciousness; if the adverse element is in "Fu Yin," it brings inauspiciousness. Therefore, in practical predictions, we should not simply say that the "Fu Yin" day pillar in the major fortune cycle is especially good or bad, but should analyze each case specifically and judge based on the favorable or unfavorable elements in the birth chart. Only in this way can we more accurately grasp the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness of the "Fu Yin" day pillar in the major fortune cycle.
